Dee Ann Story Memorial Reports Library

Dee Ann Story Memorial Reports Library

The Dee Ann Story Memorial Reports Library is located at CAS, in room 120 of the Trinity Building on the Texas State University campus. Immediately after being founded in 2000, CAS began collecting volumes of CRM reports and other grey literature pertaining to Texas archaeology from a variety of sources for the use of researchers and students. New additions have been made periodically over the years as CRM firms from around the state continue to donate volumes, and through generous donations from archaeologists and institutions around the state.

The library currently consists of more than 5000 volumes. An effort is currently underway to catalog the entire collection in order to make individual items easier to locate and to make the library generally more useful to researchers. Grant funding is being actively sought to purchase improved library shelving and finding aids. A full subject catalog of the library is also planned for the future.

Before her death in 2010, Texas archaeologist Dr. Dee Ann Story contacted Drs. Britt Bousman and  Steve Black with an offer to donate her entire personal grey-literature library to CAS. With the assistance of Texas State University students, the entire collection was rehoused. Because of her generous donation, and because of her great influence on the practice of archaeology in Texas, the staff of CAS believes that it is a fitting tribute to formally name our reports library in Dr. Story's honor.

All library materials are available for use by researchers and students. Because some of the volumes contain sensitive information about archaeological sites, access is restricted to professional archaeologists or students with a current student ID from a college or university. The Dee Ann Story library is not a lending library; items are available for viewing at CAS only. In order to preserve fragile originals, some volumes may only be available for viewing in digital form. Visitors are asked to please not bring personal scanning/ photocopy devices. Photocopies or digital images of specific sections can be made by CAS staff upon request.

For more information about the library at CAS, or to schedule an appointment to visit, please contact the CAS Collections Manager.
